Natural Hair Loss Treatment
Hair loss is something that most men and many women experience as they age, but few realize how many natural remedies are available as a do it yourself home remedy! When you understand the science behind what causes hair loss, you’ll soon realize why so many of the various treatments out there are ridiculous and that it can actually be VERY EASY to reverse.
Hair loss for many people is caused by the hormone DHT. And basically, what happens is that this hormone builds up a waxy residue on your skin that causes it to clog the hair follicles and it stops hair growth. So, if you can prevent this from happening, you can have a full head of hair. Luckily, there are a few natural home remedies that can help reverse the process of hair loss. As always however, it is best to start as soon as you notice the condition happening. Someone who has been bald for 12 years may not see as good of results as someone who noticed a few weeks ago there hair was thinning.
Popular Choice #1: Apple Cider Vinegar Rinses
Apple cider vinegar is a powerful cleaner that can help reduce the build up around hair follicles and support hair regrowth. You can buy a bottle of Apple Cider Vinegar for about $4 at any grocery store, or if you want, you can try using a specially formulated shampoo/hair rinse that includes additional beneficial ingredients. For example, Just Naturals Vinegar Rinse Cleanser (pictured right) also includes aloe vera gel, tea tree oil extract, and many other botanical ingredients.
Out of all of the various treatments, this one has the least side effects and very few dangers associated with it. (Though if using commercial products, you may want to watch for reactions to some herbs/treatments and they should not be ingested).
Popular Choice #2: Aloe Vera Gel
For another tried and true natural remedy, follow the South Americans and use Aloe Vera. They have claimed for centuries that Aloe Vera helps them grow their hair thick, naturally. Aloe Vera has an enzyme called Superoxide Dismutane. This enzyme, when rubbed into the scalp and hair, has been said to improve hair health and growth. Be wary of most aloe vera gels you purchase at stores – they usually say 100% gel – which obviously is not the same thing as 100% aloe. True aloe vera gel usually needs to be refrigerated or frozen. There are a few trustworthy vendors out there, but make sure you do your homework! The skin care industry can be a deceptive one.
For some, combining aloe vera with apple cider vinegar can be a good combination not only for hair growth and treating hair loss or hair thinning, but works as a skin regimen and digestive aid as well.
A Few Other Natural Home Remedies to Think About
There are also many natural herbal remedies that have had a role in modern science and the drug industries. These we do not recommend without the guidance of a physician or experienced herbologist, as these herbs can be very dangerous to take if used improperly. While these treatmeants are “natural” they are also the same things found in many pharmaceutical drugs – which is an indicator that perhaps they might be a little harsh for some.
The first to mention is Nettle Root. Nettle root is found in most anti-hair loss drugs as it has proven to be quite an effective natural remedy to hair loss. Nettle Root helps block 5-Alpha-Reductase. 5-Alpha reductase eventually will convert to DHT, which causes hair loss and can reverse any progress you have made (natural or not) with regrowing your head of hair. You should use caution when taking Nettle Root – it can act negatively with other drugs, be them over the counter synthetic drugs, prescription or natural remedies. You should also research the side effects and long term consequences of blocking 5-Alpha Reductase. There is a reason your body is producing too much – blocking it is not necessarily the best solution. Nettle Root can also cause some side effects, such as upset stomach and if applied topically usually results in a rash/skin irritation.
Saw Palmetto for Hair Regrowth is also popular because it is also proven to reduce DHT and improve hair growth. Similar to its synthetic cousin, Propecia, Saw Palmetto can be very effective at reversing hair loss. (Side Note: Propecia actually was re-marketed after it’s stint as a prostate drug resulted in hair growth as a side effect. Reasons to stick to natural home remedies? Check.) As one of the most popular natural remedies to hair loss, it is found in almost all synthetic or natural remedies for hair loss.
Saw Palmetto is very effective, but you should note the side effects, because it is also potentially dangerous. If you’re a woman and you happen to be pregnant, cross this one off your list. Men have reported problems urinating, blood in the urine and prostate swelling, which is probably another good indication that it’s not a good choice. These side effects can often be a big reason to avoid this home remedy, as it is very worrisome as to whether it is actually safe or not.
If you want to use saw palmetto, it is recommended you only try it with an experienced and accredited herbologist. As with any remedy, please take care when using to avoid side effects that could be harmful to the body.
As you can see, there are plenty of natural remedies that offer results without the need to digest synthetic drugs or spending hundreds of dollars to put your body at risk. Natural home remedies for hair growth do exist!
