Home Remedy For Ear Infection

Ear infections can be very uncomfortable, and many people are looking for a home remedy for an ear infection that can help clear it up or help to reduce the pain.

Most ear infections are caused by first a virus that causes the ears to become blocked or clogged and a build up of fluid causes the infection. They are most common in children, though adults can get them sometimes as well.

In most cases, if you have an ear ache, seeing a doctor is the most effective way to properly diagnose the problem, as well as to get the correct type of treatment for you. It is not recommended to stick anything in your ears without the supervision of a doctor, as this can cause more problems or infections and make matters worse. It could also result in hearing loss if you are not careful. This is especially important if you notice any discharge from your ears or eyes. If you have a ruptured or perforated ear drum, stop reading this article and see a doctor immediately.

After you have seen the doctor, you may be wondering what you can do to help your ear ache go away. Here are some home remedies for earaches you can try after discussing them with your doctor:

Heat: A warm cloth or compress against the ear (just make sure it is not too hot) can help reduce the pain.

Vodka: An old Russian remedy for ear aches is to use a dropper and drop a few drops of vodka into the ear and then lie down to allow for the ear to drain.

Sweet Oil: This is what your grandparents may have used on your parents as a remedy before antibiotics. Usually made of either almond oil or olive oil, it is still available in many drug stores. A few drops can help relieve pain, though some doctors do not encourage it since it makes it difficult for them to see the ears clearly.

Hydrogen Peroxide: Hydrogen Peroxide is a cheap enough of a remedy that can sometimes work. With this home remedy, drops of hydrogen peroxide are placed into the ear and then allowed to drain out.

Chiropractor: Many chiropractors, though you would think are only for back problems, actually specialize in ear infections as well. If you are looking for alternative treatments, visiting a chiropractor may be a good route to take.

Over the Counter Ear Drops: There are a number of over the counter ear drops that you can use to see if they help reduce the pain associated with an ear infection. If you are unsure of what type is right for you, the pharmacist may be able to help explain what each type does.

Faith Healing: If you are not a spiritual person, then you may not believe this can work, and of course you should see a doctor in addition to this remedy, but it can often help. Have someone place their hand over the ear (or both ears) and say a prayer to help cure them.
